Week 3 Preview
Division 1:
The action in division one gets underway at 7:30 on Saturday evening in Castlebar. With the visit of the All-Ireland and league champions coming to town, the clash between Mayo and Kerry is due to be a dinger. With speculation that there may be key figures returning to action on both teams such as David Clifford, Sean O`Shea, Paddy Durcan, and Cillian O`Connor, this game is sure to be a close encounter. With both teams sitting on two points, a victory for either could enhance their quest for a top-two finish. The game will be live on TG4 with throw in at 7:30. Verdict: Mayo to sneak a win in a tight affair.
Dr Hyde park is the location for the clash between high-flying Roscommon and the ever so tough Armagh men. Davy Burke`s men have got their campaign off to a cracking start with wins against Tyrone and Connacht rivals, Galway while Armagh are tipping away nicely after their narrow win against Monaghan and their draw with Mayo. This game is sure to be a wide open game with both teams opting to play an attractive brand of football while showcasing their excellent forward players, This game is live on TG4 Sunday afternoon at 1:45. Verdict: Armagh to win, in a close high scoring battle.
Donegal travel to Clones on Sunday afternoon with an eagerly expected battle to commence against Ulster rivals Monaghan. Both counties have got off to a somewhat disappointing league campaign although Donegal recorded a victory against Kerry. There is massive pressure on Monaghan coming into this game after their two losses in recent weeks. Verdict: Home advantage is crucial here and Monaghan can just sneak it in a cagey affair.
The men from the Red hand county travel west to play Galway Sunday afternoon in Tuam. With news of Damien Comer`s injury not be as worse as first thought, the Annaghdown man will still be on the sidelines out for an expected 6-8 weeks. Galway will definitely be looking to kick on and get their opening win on the boards, but with a tough Tyrone team coming to town, a tough battle will be expected. This game will be shown on deferred coverage on TG4. Verdict: Very close to call with a ding ding bottle expected, a draw could well be on the cards
Division 2:
Derry host Meath in Owenbeg on Saturday evening in a game that will be shown live on RTE2 at 5:00. This is a very tough game to call and an even result for both teams could well be expected. Verdict: Draw. Louth host a struggling Limerick side with Mickey Harte`s men desperate to get a first win on the board. Verdict: A comfortable Louth win. Kildare travel to Ennis to face a good Clare team with massive pressure on Glenn Ryan, a win for Kildare is badly needed in order to remain in the Sam Maguire completion. Verdict: A close game but Kildare to come out on top. Sunday at 3:45, TG4 will be showcasing Cork`s battle with Dublin. It’s unusual to see such famous counties do battle in division two but it is what it is. Verdict: Dublin to win but not to have it all their own way.
Division 3:
A struggling Tipperary side host Antrim on Saturday evening. Home advantage could well be the difference for the premier men. Verdict: A narrow Tipperary win. High flying Down travel to their fellow Ulster men, Fermanagh on Sunday afternoon. Down are looking very impressive so far this season with Conor Laverty seeming to get a good reaction from the mournemen. Verdict: A Down win. The battle of the midlands counties sees Westmeath and Offaly go head to head in Mullinagar. This game is sure to be a close one. Verdict: A narrow win for the Maroon men. Finally, in division three, bordering counties Cavan face Lonfgford in Breffini park with Mickey Grahem`s men going well. Verdict: A comfortable win for Cavan.
Division 4:
London are traveling over to play Oisin Mc Conville`s Wicklow in Aughrim on Saturday afternoon with a tight game expected. Verdict: A narrow Wicklow win. Sligo host a Waterford team that seems to be up against it. Verdict: A very easy win for Sligo. Andy Moran`s Leitrim charges travel down to Wexford on Sunday with Leitrim being full of confidence. Dangerman Keith Beirne is standing out for Leitrim this season and is emerging as one of the best forwards in Ireland at the moment. Verdict: A Leitrim win. The last game in division four sees Carlow host Laois in what is expected to be a good battle between the Leinster counties. Verdict: Laois to remain at the top of the division with a victory.
